第一章,道與名(Lao Zi Chapter one - Tao and the Name)

"道可道,非常道。"
The Tao*(way) that can be told of is not Absolute Tao.
*Tao:- indescribable abstruse source of cosmic energy
宇宙是遵循"道"即宇宙規律而運行的,而我們又不可以執著這個"道"是一般常規的道理和規則。

"名可名,非常名。"
The names that can be given are not enduring and unchanging names.
這個"道"雖然有一個名稱,而我們也不可以執著這些名相去思索尋道。

"無,名天地之始。有,名萬物之母。"
As the origin of heaven and earth, it is nameless. As the mother of all things, it is nameable.
空"無"即指我們的妙明真心,是宇宙本體,本來具足萬能,本來圓滿無缺。空無到了極至,於是發起自性功能的妄動,最初生出各種元素。自性妄動不息,各種元素互相發生化學和物理反應,便生出萬"有"。故也可以說真空就是生出世間萬有的母體。

"故常無,欲以觀其妙。常有,欲以觀其徼。"
Therefore when one is without passion, he is able to see things at inner essence. So, when one is full of worldly or mundane desire, he can see things at outer aspects.
所以我們要經常保持在心空無我的狀態,以此方法便可以通達體悟宇宙實相的奧妙。又要在萬事萬物的功能之中,去領悟它們無邊無際的妙用。

"此兩者,同出而異名,同謂之玄。玄之又玄,眾妙之門。"
These two denominations bear the same origin but with different names. Both of them may be called the Cosmic Mystery. Reaching from the mystery and then into deeper mystery, one can find the door to the secret essence of life.
此兩者"無"和"有"本來是一體的,是"體"和"用"的關係,亦即,無是有的因,有是無的果,這就形成了生滅不停的作用。如一呼一吸之自然往復,亦如環之無端。所以"無"和"有"都是世間一切萬物生起的奧妙之因。
